Screen Door Film is Austin’s premiere micro-cinema, providing a theatrical release for award-winning independent features and short films. Our ongoing screening series is carefully curated from the best of the film festivals, as well as the finest in independent cinema. Each event is a unique opportunity to view rarely seen films, as well as network with local directors, actors, crew and other like-minded cinephiles.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide a theatrical release for short-form and selected long-form DV, film and video projects that otherwise might never be widely seen by the public. Through these screenings, Screen Door Film highlights the talents of local and national filmmakers in a low-pressure, interactive environment. Directors and producers alike benefit from our marketing, promotional, and event planning solutions.

THE TEAM

Our team displays a passion for film and the experience to back it up.

Ryan Long
Ryan Long

Hailing from Chicago, Ryan went to the University of Texas for a Radio-Television Film degree. After a start in local television, he made the jump to Los Angeles where he was fortunate to learn the post-production sound trade from Academy Award winner Dane Davis. Davis’ studio, Danetracks, is responsible for such films as The Matrix, Swordfish, Dogtown and Z-boys, and Boogie Nights among countless others.

After time spent freezing his ass off in New York City, working on various documentary projects, Ryan settled back in Austin for good. Screen Door started out as a theatrical distribution outlet for his own film work, but Screen Door’s success has left precious little time for actual filmmaking.

John Hewlett
John Hewlett
John Hewlett was raised in central Virginia. His initial forays into filmmaking bridged the gap between creative expression and badly needed extra credit for school. At the college level, John pursued individual film studies. An independent study on the critical dissection of “This is Spinal Tap” became so all consuming that it prevented any study abroad. As a founding member of Screen Door Film, John has played a number of roles in the rise of the short film subculture. He is currently at work on his latest effort, “The Request”.
Juliana Nichols
Juliana Nichols
Juliana Nichols is one of the founders of Screen Door. She has been working in film and television for nine years. Her acting credits include the feature films, The Martini Shot and Mysterious Circumstances along with numerous theatre projects including The Crucible and Hamlet. She has produced several commercials, videos and industrial videos. Julianna has worked as head of wardrobe for the TV pilot, Joy Agents. She has also sat on the board of Raggamuffin Film Festival as the event coordinator. Juliana is co-owner/Creative Director of Gobotrick Theatre Company in Austin, Texas with Jessica McMichael. You can view past projects and news for the award-winning nonprofit theater company at gobotrick.org.
